Letting Love Widen

Earth Day Reflections on Fluid Perception, Kinship, and Humble Participation

Brian Lesage led this EcoDharma Exploration on April 26, 2026. We welcome your support for this program. A recording is available below.

Our EcoDharma Explorations are co-created with Braided Wisdom and Spirit Rock as part of a new initiative, the EcoDharma & Transformational Culture Program. We at One Earth Sangha are honored and excited to collaborate with our partners on EcoDharma Explorations and beyond.

On Earth Day we pause to notice how the world that appears depends on how we perceive. This talk explores two perspectives: we can participate, and we are not in control. When these are interwoven, often something in us softens.

As human centered perception loosens, we begin to sense ourselves as one being among many beings, a life interwoven with other lives. The boundaries between “me” and “world” can feel a little more fluid through the body. In that widening, the Earth is no longer only a problem to solve, but a vast community of beings we are woven into.

From that wider perception, compassion deepens, and wise action can arise from reverence and devotion rather than supremacy, despair, or the pressure to fix everything. Love becomes less contingent on outcomes, and more like a practice of staying in relationship. It is a way of letting the Earth be loved through us, again and again.

Brian Lesage has practiced Buddhist meditation since 1988 and has taught meditation since 2000. He has studied in the Zen, Theravada and Tibetan schools of Buddhism and was ordained in the Rinzai Zen tradition in 1996. His training in vipassana meditation includes doing extended meditation retreats in Myanmar (Burma), Nepal, and India as well as numerous retreats in the U.S. He leads retreats and teaches meditation courses nationwide.
