When are the next teacher trainings available?
The 2026 teacher trainings are currently scheduled for March 3–May 5 and June 10–August 12. Additional cohorts will be offered in the future, so if neither of these dates works for you, we invite you to subscribe to our mailing list to be the first to hear about upcoming opportunities.
What are the requirements for being accepted into this program?
We assume participants already have training in leading meditation, offering Dharma talks, and working with students. Building on that foundation — whether you are new to teaching or have years of experience as a Dharma teacher, mindfulness guide, or practitioner in a teaching role — this course is for those ready to step into leadership during the profound and challenging opportunity of our time: helping to shape an EcoDharma that is courageous, creative, and fully alive.
This course may be a good fit if you
- Currently offer, or have recently offered, Dharma or mindfulness teachings.
- Are recognized as a teacher within these lineages, whether through formal training, mentorship with a senior teacher, or both.
- Want to meet the ecological and social crises of our world not with avoidance or despair, but with grounded practices that open meaningful paths forward for those you serve.
- Have come to know your own limits and can remain present, at least most of the time, when things get uncomfortable.
- Are not seeking ready-made answers so much as open invitations: to sense together, to wrestle with hard questions, and to be genuinely changed in the company of peers who value vulnerability, compassion, and collective wisdom.
- Carry a deep longing for integrity, for vitality, for teachings that can meet this moment honestly and you are looking for a place to tend that longing in a courageous, connected community.
If all or most of this resonates, we welcome your application.
How might this course support my path as a teacher?
Our course offers a transformative, grounded, and visionary space for those who feel called further—to lead within the emergent EcoDharma field. We will support participants with the development of EcoDharma insights as well as practical skills to share with their communities. We will help teachers develop their own unique EcoDharma approach, rooted in their lineages. With live small-group facilitation, voices from leading teachers, and collective practice, we will explore how the Dharma might evolve to meet this moment—not as escape, but as engaged presence. Together we will appreciate, challenge, grapple, imagine, and practice. We will specifically support you in discovering your own role to play in the lineage of EcoDharma by
- Facing the truth of ecological unraveling and metabolize its personal and collective impacts
- Exploring the historical, political, and cultural dimensions shaping this crisis
- Integrating key elements of climate psychology to address ecological grief, anxiety, and anger
- Nourishing the capacity for transforming these immense challenges into sources of wisdom, connection, inspiration, and collaboration
- Cultivating a space for mystery, sacredness, and durable meaning rooted in the living Earth
- With insights from Buddhism as well as indigenous ways of looking, animism, and eco-psychology, fostering collaborations among human communities as well as more-than-human communities at the watershed level for response and resilience.
What if I am not currently a teacher or I am a teacher in a non-Buddhist modality?
This course is designed for those who are already actively teaching or guiding others in Dharma or mindfulness contexts, so if you are not currently in a teaching role, it may not be the right fit at this time. We encourage you to continue deepening your practice and training, and to consider applying when you have moved into a more active teaching role.
If you have an established practice in a Buddhist lineage, yet teach in a related but non-Buddhist modality such as somatic work, eco-psychology, or contemplative practice outside a Buddhist lineage, we welcome you to reach out and start a conversation with us. While the course draws heavily on Buddhist frameworks and assumes familiarity with Dharma teaching, we recognize that the EcoDharma field is inherently interdisciplinary, and there may be cases where someone from an adjacent tradition would be a strong fit. The best way to find out is to connect with us directly. You can contact us at
How do I apply for this program?
The application is available here.
How long after I apply will I hear if I am accepted?
You will typically hear back within two weeks of applying, at which point you will receive your acceptance notification along with a link to complete your registration. During periods of high application volume it may take a bit longer, so if you haven’t heard back after two weeks please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
What is included in the course?
Your registration includes:
- Access to all module materials on the Course Resources page: module videos, practices, and optional follow-up resources.
- Six online live modules and four self-study modules
- One private one-on-one ‘office hours’ session with course leaders Adam Lobel or Kristin Barker.
- A Certificate of Completion for those that choose the certification pathway.
- Ongoing access to a shared community where you can connect and continue the conversation with fellow participants.
What if I will need to miss one or two modules? Can I still register or will I need to take a future program instead?
Participants should plan to attend all five live sessions and at most miss one.
We understand that life is full and schedules don’t always cooperate. That said, we strongly encourage attendance at all of the live gatherings, as the depth of the course depends on the presence and engagement of the full group. Those who wish to receive a certificate can miss one session and watch the recording.
If you anticipate missing two or more modules, we would encourage you to consider joining a future cohort when your schedule allows for fuller participation.
What is the amount of time needed in order to take this program?
It will require a weekly commitment of 4 to 7 hours.
Is this a certificate program? What is required to earn a certificate?
There are two ways to move through this training:
- Participate – learn, connect with peers, practice, and absorb all you can.
- Receive a Certificate – this requires:
- Attend all online sessions, missing no more than one live module
- Complete and post online reflections on the videos/readings each week
- Engage the contemplative practices each week and post online about your experience
- Offer a final presentation and/or project proposal on one aspect of Ecodharma
- Attend one “office hours” session with Kristin or Adam
Graduates will receive a certificate of completion recognizing their engaged inquiry into the themes of this course. The certificate is not a mark of mastery, but rather an acknowledgment of meaningful and sustained commitment — to deepen one’s Dharma teaching by attending to the structural, historical, and planetary dimensions of suffering and response. It reflects an ability to hold the Dharma’s fractal nature, where the personal and political, individual and collective, intimate and systemic are not separate but mutually arising.
For communities and institutional partners, the certificate offers a tangible sign that something valuable has been sought, cultivated, and taken root. Graduates are welcome to reference the certificate in their bios, and we are happy to provide confirmation of completion upon request.
Who will be leading this program?
The main teachers will be Kristin Barker, co-founder and director of One Earth Sangha, and Adam Lobel, a longtime senior Buddhist teacher and student, and a teacher of Ecopsychology. There will be teachings from a distinguished group of other teachers, and you can view all biographies here under ‘Your Guides’.
Where can I find the videos, practices, and other resources for the course?
Once you are registered, you will receive instructions on how to access your course materials through our online platform. You will create an account where all materials will be housed, with new content released on a weekly basis. Everything is available directly on the platform, and as a registered participant you will have access to all materials indefinitely.
Can I share the course materials with people who are not registered?
We request that you don’t. Registrations support our operations, as well as helping us understand the reach of our course and improve future offerings. However, we do not turn anyone away due to lack of funds. See section below to learn more about course fees and scholarships.
Will transcripts of the video segments be available?
Our goal is to provide transcripts for every video. Because this process takes some time, captions and transcripts may not be immediately available when videos are released, but we will complete them as soon as we can. If you are interested in helping us with this project, please contact us at
I'm having difficulty playing a module's videos. What should I do?
Since these videos are such large files, they’re especially vulnerable to any network interruptions. Try refreshing the page and ensuring there are no problems with your internet connection. If you continue to have issues, please reach out to us at
How long will the module videos and other resources be available?
All course resources will remain permanently available to registered participants.
How do the live gatherings work?
There are six live sessions in total. Two hour sessions are held every week for the first five weeks, followed by four weeks of self-study, culminating in a three-hour capstone live gathering at course completion.
Will recordings of the live gatherings be made available?
Yes, recordings of all live sessions will be made available on the course platform, so you can revisit the content at any time.
How much does this training cost?
Registration fees help sustain the work we offer. Without a physical space, our costs may not be obvious, but our operations still require significant resources to run. Like many convert-Dharma communities, we rely in part on the practice of dana, and also depend on registration support to make our programs possible. We would not be able to offer programs like this without the generous support of our community.
The basic rate for registration is $750 USD.
We invite you to consider your ability to pay as a function of your geographic and social location as well as other circumstances. Our sliding fee scales are based on your relative financial standing in a global context.
Considerations include:
- historical discrimination and disenfranchisement faced by your peoples;
- your financial wealth (do you have retirement savings?);
- your access to income and financial wealth, both current and anticipated (how easily could you earn more income compared to other people in your country and in the world? do you expect to receive an inheritance?);
- people counting on your financial livelihood including dependents and community members;
- and the socio-economic conditions of your locale (relative to other places in your country and in the world).
For people with medium, high, or very high access to wealth in the global context:
- Basic rate: $750 USD
- Supporter: $1,000 USD
- Sustainer: $1,500 USD
For people with relatively low access to wealth in the global context:
- Basic rate: $275 USD
- Supporter: $350 USD
- Sustainer: $500 USD
What if I am experiencing financial hardship? Do you offer scholarships?
It is our policy that no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. Need-based discounts are available to those who are unable to offer the standard rate. Additionally, ordained teachers are eligible for a discount. Please indicate this in your application and we will be in touch with details.
Email to inquire about these discounts.
Is it possible to take this teacher training as a group of people from my sangha?
Yes, absolutely. We welcome and support groups from the same sangha or teaching community of choice registering together as a cohort. If you are interested in bringing a group, please reach out to us and we will be happy to help coordinate the details.
What are the sizes of the cohorts?
Cohort sizes are intentionally structured in order to prioritize intimacy and group coherence. At the same time, we aim to bring together enough voices to create a rich and diverse learning community. The exact size may vary from cohort to cohort, but in all cases our goal is to cultivate a space that feels both spacious and close-knit — where everyone has room to be heard and the group as a whole can think, feel, and practice together meaningfully.
