Engaged Buddhist Training: Empowering Transformation
Date(s) - Aug 5, 2017 - Aug 19, 2017
This training, offered by the Ecodharma Centre in Catalunya, Spain, brings together the best in activist education with Dharma-based practice in personal and interpersonal transformation.
Effective and authentic transformation of self and the world necessarily go hand in hand. So, this event brings together a team of talented facilitators to offer tools that integrate the inner dimension of change with practical skills in organizing, community building, and designing effective strategies for social transformation.
The event highlights:
- A training grounded in Buddhist values and practice
- Crucial practical tools for organizing
- Cultivating inner resources for sustaining inspiration and engagement
- Skills for building a culture of compassion
In our times, personal and social transformation are intimately bound together. As climate change, peak oil and economic precariousness articulate the endgame of this industrial growth era, spiritual practice that fails to face these conditions runs the risk of falling into narcissistic escapism. Meanwhile, attempts to engage with these social and ecological conditions need to be resourced by deep awareness, self-knowledge, and emotional intelligence. As they say, “Wisdom without action is lame, and action without wisdom is blind.”

One Earth Sangha offers a global list of events that express a Buddhist / mindfulness response to ecological crises. We invite you to join or add events that develop and demonstrate our interdependence with all of life! Events that address multiple issues (e.g., racism, economic injustice and environmental health) are encouraged. You’re invited to list events from your local sangha, including earth-oriented day-longs, retreats and even regular sangha meetings. We also want you to share demonstration and direct action events. You, the members of our Sangha, are encouraged to submit events, whether they be from the Dharma community, other faith groups or secular, where you wish to gather other Buddhist / mindfulness practitioners to participate. To submit an event, please email us.
This growing list of events will always be available here and in the main menu under “Get Involved.”
