Sitting Through the Night for Trees

all-night-sit-jpg

Organized by the Dharma Action Network for Climate Engagement (DANCE) and Gaia House, five Sanghas in England took part on Saturday the 18th of January in an all-night sit raising money for Tree Aid, an environmental charity working with local communities in Africa. Meditators in Devon, Brighton, Bristol, Cornwall, London and Milton Keynes, all sat together in solidarity for a very special night of practice and dedications. £2,707 has been raised so far (as of February 8th). If you would like to support the cause, please visit the sponsorship page – it’s still active.

According to one participant, “It was a beautiful night of sitting here in Brighton by the light of candles and a roaring open fire which we kept stoked all night. We read everyone’s messages and some poems through the night but otherwise kept it simple, just sitting and walking in the gardens, with the odd cup of chai thrown in. … it was beautiful to be raising money for trees, it felt very sacred and it was lovely to think about all of you around the country doing the same.”
