From the Roof of the World

On October 20, His Holiness the Dalai Lama issued a call for action on climate change as part of a new campaign called “Tibet: Climate Action for the Roof of the World”.

Tibet is an environmentally strategic area. And as the world focuses on climate action at the United Nations COP21 meetings and beyond, Tibet must be central to any progress made on climate change.

Tibet is facing retreating glaciers, deteriorating permafrost, degrading grasslands and increasing desertification. Over the past 50 years, the temperature of the Tibetan Plateau has increased three times the global average.

In the lead up to COP21, the Central Tibetan Administration is calling on world leaders to take urgent action on climate change starting with a strong global climate agreement in Paris.

We need Climate Action for the Roof of the World.

  1. Joining the coordinated “thunderclap” of social media on November 28th
  2. Show your solidarity for climate action for the Tibetan Plateau: Take the Roof of the World challenge.
    Groups and individuals can take a photo with their arms above their heads forming a roof with their hands. Share your photo on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook with the #RoofOfTheWorld hashtag. “I support #climateaction for Tibet – #RoofOfTheWorld #COP21”
  3. Joining the People’s Climate Movement event in Paris on solidarity events around the world on November 28/29.
