I work doing early literacy outreach at Brooklyn Public Library working in high needs neighborhoods around Brooklyn. I work primarily with Black, Hispanic, and new immigrant neighborhoods.

I primarily have worked on this through zen meditation. I have worked in groups a bit.

My goal is to learn to hold the stress and be a productive helper in the coming years as we fight for our planet. My children are young teens and I would like to help guide them to be proactive without being debilitated with their own fears. They already feel the trauma they have been handed. It has been explicitly taught to them from elementary school up. They feel helpless because they aren’t old enough to know how they can help. I hope to guide them with my own compassion towards race trauma and climate trauma that has been done and how this ties together as we move forward. If nothing else we can build strength together.

Work, parents I come into contact with, friends who have children of the same age, other teens I come to know in the coming years.

We belong to the same zen center. I am not currently practicing at the Brooklyn Zen Center for personal reasons but I have no problem working with this group. I do know Radha but not Arthur but I know we will have a similar language on which to connect on this issue.
