Please tell us about your work, passions and/or talents with respect to the climate or justice movement

I have been involved with the Racial Justice movement for over four years now and I am as active I can be with both Boulder SURJ and Denver SURJ.

With BSURJ, I am a member of the core/leadership team and we provide suport to BIPOC organizations as they need it, work on local issues directly or indirectly (racial equity plan, police master plan, city council decisions, RJ coalition), we also provide a conversation series on race, and we have other longer term goals. One of these long term goals for us is to bring more soul and spirituality to our work. I and all the core members believe that we need to be grounded in spirituality in order for us to find the resilience to do this work in the long run. This is something that we are still defining individually and as a group, but we are on the path. This group was created after George Floyd’s murder and so we are fairly young, but we have a truly wonderful team.

With DSURJ, I am a member of the organizers team, the direct action team, the education team and the Research and Resource team. The approach is a little different there and the group is much larger and has been in existence since 2014. I joined it 4 years ago to be part of the direct action team and then learned more and more with them.

I’m also part of the co-lead alumni team from the Facing Racism training offered by Soul to Soul Sisters in Denver. I support S2S in any capacity I can for whatever ask they might have (tech support for their events and cohorts, when needed. SURJ representative to inform the newest cohorts about what we do and lead them towards action, etc.).
I always try to increase collaboration between the different groups, so we can multiply our power and build community and trust.

What is your past experience with trauma/stress healing?

I am learning about trauma and stress healing. I am currently in therapy, but only for a short while longer as my therapist is moving back to Europe. I am learning about trauma therapy, collective trauma and ancestral healing, but really need to know more in all of them.
I am part of BIM sangha and also follow the teachings of Larry Ward from the Lotus Institute.

What are your goals for participating in this course?

This course is in alignment with my goals as an activist of deepening my grounding practice, finding resilience and determination in action, finding community and building trust.

What are some communities you’re a part of that might benefit from what you would be learning in this course?

I’m hoping to bring what I learn to Boulder SURJ in particular, but also to all the groups I belong to and to the community around me.
