Incarnating

Lately I keep coming back
to the same thought—
we need to be courageous
to exist in this world.

Once I read, before incarnating
we are given the choice
of which planet
to experience life on.

The author believed Earth
the most difficult,
something about the amount
of healing needed here.

I see how this could be true.
Even an easy life
has an inescapable share
of pain and heartache.

So I practice envisioning breathe
on my deep inhales
and sighing ease
on my releasing exhales.

I watch the trees around me bend
in stiff winds without
branches breaking, saying yes
to all kinds of weather
as they shelter squirrels and birds
in their outstretched arms.
